Students who improve reading speed, comprehension, and writing skills over the summer start the school year with tools to take control of their work. They understand and complete all of their assignments more quickly and with greater confidence.

Nevertheless, much of the vocabulary is way beyond my beginnng 5th grade daughter, and many words were brand new to my 11th grade son.

I found this book to be pretty useful. What I love about it is that there are prompt across various essay types (persuasive, narrative, etc.) and that there is a rubric to gauge or identify a student's success for that type of prompt. Sophomore English emphasizes critical reading, focused discussions, and a variety of writing assignments connected to the study of literature derived from the British tradition.
